Put your people first and the results follow: why your team retreat matters

by | Nov 27, 2023

As I finish up my first year at Intesa, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with our dynamic team on a range of incredible award-winning projects and campaigns. Some of my favorites were:

The beauty of working at a boutique firm is the ability to work directly with our diverse client roster, access to decades of experience from my all-star lineup of colleagues, and ongoing professional development opportunities.

It’s a fast paced, all-hands on deck environment, so it’s important for us to take the time to slow down each year and reflect:

  1. How are we working as a team?
  2. Where can we grow as individuals?
  3. What went well, and what can we do differently to serve our clients better?

Our annual retreat provides us the space to focus on our work as a cohesive team, hear our colleagues’ honest and open feedback, and get prepared for another year of helping our clients communicate and advocate with confidence.

Whether we’re retreating to Oceanside, Las Vegas, or Downtown San Diego, it’s a time for reflection on successes and learnings, as well as brainstorming about new opportunities for business growth and professional development.

Oh, and we have a lot of fun, too!

At Intesa, our motto is we do our best work for clients and causes we believe in. As our resident Gen Z, values-driven work and growth opportunities are incredibly important at this stage of my career.

To me, a small but important part of that statement is “we.” At Intesa, “we” is not just our partners or our senior leadership. “We” is ALL of us: Margie, Maddy, Nancy, Ken, Greg, Chelsey, and me.

Our perspectives are valued and are continuously integrated into how we operate as a firm. That speaks to the principles of our leadership, and their commitment to invest in their people first to create great results for our clients and our community.

The results speak for themselves. While we love to celebrate all the wins, I look forward to this time each year to reflect on our past work and get excited for the opportunities ahead.
